Tell us what you have
Rough descriptions are fine. You do not need to know what format something is before you write in, describing it is usually enough for us to name it.
Have a photo? Send a photo inquiry
Attach a photo of your tapes, reels or prints. We will help identify them. One file, up to 20 MB.
Photo on your phone?
Scan to send your inquiry there. Use the same email address if you have already sent us a message.
If the photo form does not load, text your photo to (612) 649-4707.
Custom quotes
Sending the whole closet?
A whole closet, an estate or a studio archive gets quoted as one project rather than per piece. It is almost always cheaper than the per-item rates even after the volume discount, and we can work from a photo instead of an exact count. There is more detail on the estates and large collections page.
Send a photo of the pile
A picture of the boxes stacked up is usually all we need to give you a real number.
One business day
You get a flat price for the collection, not a per-item estimate you have to add up yourself.
Estates, studios and institutions
Bulk archives, church and school collections, and studio masters are routine here.
Contact questions
Getting hold of us
If yours is not here, call or text (612) 649-4707 and a real person will answer.
Ask us anythingWhat if my tapes are lost or damaged?
Your originals always come back. Everything is digitized by hand in our own Minneapolis shop, never shipped to a central facility in another state, and never fed through a bulk machine. If something arrives already damaged we stop, tell you what we found, and wait for your go-ahead before anything is repaired or charged. If you would rather not post anything at all, you can hand your box to a person at one of six Twin Cities counters.
What is the fastest way to get an answer?
Text (612) 649-4707. It reaches the same people as the phone and you will usually hear back within the hour during business days.
Can I visit the shop?
We work out of a Minneapolis facility rather than a retail storefront, so drop-offs go through our six partner counters. If you have a large or fragile collection, call and we will arrange something directly.
Can my final invoice be different from the estimate?
Payment is collected when you place your order. We recount your media on arrival and may adjust your invoice if the actual count differs.
If a tape needs a repair or your project needs additional work, we explain the options and get your approval before doing that work.
Do you do home pickups?
For larger Twin Cities collections, often yes. Call and ask, it comes up more than you would think.
When can I request a quality correction?
You can request a quality correction at any time during or after your order. There is no deadline for making a request. Email contact@familymediatransfer.com or call (612) 649-4707 and tell us what needs attention.
Ready when you are
Or just start the order.
Build your estimate, review your choices and pay when you order. We may adjust your invoice if the media count differs when it arrives.
Call or text, a real person answers, usually John.
